Growing Practices

At Whistle Cat Farm our practices reflect our appreciation and awe of the natural world, allowing the soil, plants, and sunlight to do the bulk of the work and only involving ourselves as necessary. This means we use organic practices, free from synthetic pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers, which may harm many beneficial microbes and bugs, or strengthen undesirable ones. It also means we practice minimal tillage and are committed to working towards no-till methods to allow the rich biome of our soil to flourish. We will incorporate healthy crop rotations including the use of cover cropping, composting, and mulching to give the soil a rest. The use of pollinator strips and perennial plantings will increase biodiversity and boost the resiliency of our farm and the surrounding environment.
